Flats Fishing in the Florida Keys and Key West

Permit faceFlats fishing in the Keys is very exciting. Noted as one of the most challenging in saltwater fishing, the flats enable both fly fisherman and light tackle anglers to sight cast to fish in just a few feet of water. Tarpon, bonefish and permit roam the flats during all times of the year. Some times are better than others for each species, but rest assured there is always something to see and something to cast to while fishing in the waters around Key West and the Lower Florida Keys. A visit to the Marquesas to fish is a must if you have the time and the weather is right. The Marquesas is an atoll of the coast of Key West, 22 miles west.

Backcountry Fishing in the Keys and Key West

Backcountry FIshing in Key WestLike flats fishing in the Keys, backcountry fishing is just as fun. Although backcountry guides may not pole the flats all day, they know where the fish are and add other species to the menu including snapper, jack crevalle, the occasional grouper, shark and barracuda. This type of fishing is a great way to see the waters, catch some fish and have a relaxing day on the water.

Light Tackle Sport Fishing in Key West

Key West sport fishingProbably the most exciting and versitile fishing in the Keys is light tackle fishing. Reef and wreck fishing for snapper and grouper, offshore fishing with live bait for tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi dolphin, and sailfish, and fishing for tarpon, permit and cobia in the harbor. Hop on a light tackle boat out of Key West and you are in for any combination on your fishing venture. Some of the best fisherman in the world are right here in the Florida Keys.

Key West Offshore & Deep Sea Fishing

Key West offshore fishingTrolling and live bait sailfishing are what these larger boats that head offshore like to do most. These fishing boats can accommodate up to 6 anglers in comfort even in heavier seas. They can troll the reefs for grouper and larger snapper, or troll offshore for tuna, wahoo, sailfish and marlin.
